Our story begins long before the blueprints for this restaurant were drawn and approved. In the late 80s and through most of the 90s,  Peggy Childers made chili, spaghetti and more of her original recipes at The Sugar Shack located in West Whitesburg.

Pine mountain grill opened in 1997 offering many menu items from Peggy’s recipes. Those menu items are made the same way she did and are the reason our customers are as loyal today as they were more than 30 years ago.

We’re deeply rooted at the foot of Pine Mountain and our love for our community is shared through our scratch cooking, friendly service, and a commitment to offering you a great place to relax and enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures.  

The changes made were truly remarkable and one of a kind. Our rustic elements were made from reclaimed materials right here in Letcher County. Wood was taken from old barns of Letcher & Laurel County, metal was scrapped, and hand welded in house by local welders, shelving was custom made in house, signs and decals made by local company Rustic Rooster, and our unique artwork hanging throughout the restaurant are photos taken right here in Letcher County. 

We also made several changes to our event space to better accommodate all event types and sizes. We are so proud of our new facility, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
